Overview
MV Bavaria is a German-managed steel-hulled Similan liveaboard known for its consistency, safety, and flexibility. While not the most luxurious vessel, it makes up for it with solid service, a capable crew, and diverse itineraries suited to a wide range of divers.
Boat and Onboard Experience
Though the design is a bit traditional, the boat is practical and well-maintained. It accommodates up to 24 divers across a range of air-conditioned cabins, and offers a relaxed and social onboard atmosphere. The dive deck is spacious and functional, and there’s a shaded outdoor lounge as well as an indoor salon for meals and briefings.
The food onboard is hearty and satisfying, blending Thai and Western options to suit a variety of tastes. Staff are friendly and professional, reflecting the boat’s well-established German-Thai operational partnership.
Dive Itineraries
Bavaria’s itineraries are a real standout feature. The boat runs multiple route options, offering flexibility without compromising dive quality:
- Trip A (4D/3N) – Focuses on the Similan Islands. Great for divers with limited time, though the dive quality is milder compared to the more northern sites.
- Trip B (4D/3N) – Covers Koh Bon, Koh Tachai, Richelieu Rock, and the Surin Islands. This is where the diving gets more advanced and diverse.
- Trip C (7D/6N) – A full combination of Trips A and B. Ideal for divers who want the complete Similan diving experience.
- Trip BS (Southern Andaman) – Explores the South Andaman Sea including Hin Daeng, Hin Muang, and Koh Haa. These run less frequently.
- Extended Combo (11D/10N) – On select dates, Bavaria offers a combo trip that merges the southern and northern Andaman sites into one extensive itinerary with up to 35 dives.
One thing to be aware of is that during the full 7-night Trip C, other divers may join or leave mid-cruise (Trip A or B), which can cause minor disruption to the flow for Trip C guests. Still, the flexibility appeals to many, and the dive team handles transitions well.
Who is This Boat Best For?
Bavaria is a strong match for divers who prioritize reliability and good planning over fancy aesthetics. It’s particularly popular with German divers due to the familiar language, food, and operating standards onboard. Whether you’re diving for 3 nights or 11, you’ll be in good hands with this experienced and organized team.
