There are not a great deal of songs written specifically about scuba diving, but plenty with titles or lyrics divers can relate too. There are also a lot of songs about the sea.

So if you are heading out on a scuba diving trip or just spending time by the ocean, here are our top ten songs to get you in the mood.

1. Underwater Love by Smoke City

This must be underwater love, The way I feel it slipping all over me. This must be underwater love, The way I feel it.

English band Smoke City mixed acid jazz and trip hop to bring us this chilled diver’s classic. The song Underwater Love first featured in a Levi’s television advertisement entitled ‘Mermaids‘ and was a huge hit for the band in 1997. It later featured in a surf video, Thicker Than Water. Listening to this song before diving is guaranteed to put you in a relaxed mood, diving must be underwater love.

2. Octopus’s Garden by The Beatles

Good old Ringo gets the chance to sing for the last time with The Beatles.  The idea of an octopus’s garden came whilst dining with the comedian Peter Sellers in Sardinia back in 1968 on a boat. He was mistakenly served squid and chips instead of fish and chips…

It was okay. A bit rubbery – Ringo

The boat’s captain informed Ringo that octopus crawl along the ocean bottom collecting rocks and objects which they use to build gardens.

Any Top Ten would not be complete without a tune from The Fab 4.

3. Under Pressure by David Bowie and Queen

This would be the perfect opportunity to talk about Boyle’s Law; The absolute pressure exerted by a given mass of an ideal gas is inversely proportional to the volume it occupies if the temperature and amount of gas remain unchanged… but divers know that already, right? Here’s some Bowie and Queen

4. La Mer by Charles Trenet

And with a song of love, the sea has becalmed my heart eternally

The ultimate ode to the sea.

5. The Sea by Morcheeba

A massive radio hit from the English trio Morcheeba. Songs about the sea really don’t get much better than this. Best enjoyed lounging in a hammock on a Similan liveaboard around sunset.

6. Jump by the Pointer Sisters

A nice little number to get you in the mood for diving and getting ready to JUMP!

7. The Great White Shark Song by Andy Brandy Casagrande IV

Filmmaker, songwriter & shark junky  Andy Brandy Casagrande IV says:

If I was a great white shark…I wouldn’t bite you

Originally inspired by a National Geographic program about Great White Sharks, Andy hopes his song will inspire protection, conservation & further research of these amazing animals and to give them a voice for their survival.

8. Koh Tao Nian Rhapsody by Master Divers

Master Divers retake of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody was a viral hit within the online diving community so we’ve included it in our top ten. Enjoy Koh Tao Nian Rhapsody.

9.  Low On Air by 77 Bombay Street

Thanks Tom for recommending this song. Low On Air is taken from the album Oko Town by 77 Bombay Street and is a great advertisement for Thailand diving at Koh Phi Phi.

10. Our Blue by The Tank Bangers

The Tank Bangers singing for our oceans. Check out more from the Tank Bangers, the world’s only underwater charity band and conservation group.

Under the Sea from Disney’s The Little Mermaid

This song didn’t quite make our top ten but Sebastian’s message needs a mention.

The human world, it’s a mess,
Life under the sea is better than anything they got up there.

Sebastian sums it up perfectly. Hope you enjoyed our top ten scuba diving songs, Dive with a Smile 😉
