It might be “low season” here in Khao Lak, but it certainly isn’t a slow time for us. Here at Thailand Dive and Sail we are preparing for the coming Similan liveaboard Season. We are continually updating our website, sourcing new information about the boats and keeping up to date with any changes in itineraries.
SIMILAN LIVEABOARDS IN THE SHIP YARD
As usual, many Similan liveaboards are in the ship yard getting revamped or updated. The luxury SY Diva Andaman has been in getting it’s yearly service, as has the MV Oktavia.
MV Oktavia Similan Liveaboard in the Ship Yard
The Oktavia had some unexpected repairs to be made. One of the master cabin doors was left damaged after a torrential storm last November. Although this door was damaged, the Oktavia was one of the only Similan liveaboards strong enough to stay out in that weather.
SIMILAN LIVEABOARDS OVERSEAS
While other Similan liveaboards are waiting to go into the ship yard, others have taken to different waters for the months of May – October.
Thailand Aggressor heads to Indonesia
The Aggressor, one of our most high-end boats, has now started it’s schedule in Indonesia, before heading back to Khao Lak in November to start it’s Mergui Archipelago journeys. The MV White Manta, a beautiful mid-range Similan liveaboard, has taken to the Tioman Islands in Malaysia, as well as some of the top dive sites in Indonesia.
SIMILAN LIVEABOARD UPDATES FOR 2014-2015
Another Similan liveaboard making its way through non-Thai waters this low season is the MV DiveRACE. This vessel is travelling throughout the gulf of Thailand, visiting Koh Tao and Chumpon. While the MV DiveRACE is exploring the eastern Thai dive sites, it’s sister ship is being built in Phuket ship yard. The new boat will be a mid-range Similan liveaboard stylishly designed with en-suite facilities in every cabin, private balconies in each of the main deck cabins, laundry service and state of the art side scan sonar technology. We’re excited about this new Similan liveaboard option!
New for December 2014 the DiveRACE Class E
The MV Giamani has re-organised it’s cabin configuration, from next season this Similan liveaboard will be taking only 10 people in en-suite deluxe twin or double cabins or in the master cabin. The Giamani will also be introducing a couple of Burma liveaboard options for next season too, visiting the Mergui in March and in April.
LOOKING FORWARD TO THE 2014-2015 SIMILAN DIVING SEASON
So despite this being “low season” and despite the political turmoil that has kept Bangkok in the news, we are still very busy here in Khao Lak. As you may have noticed from our Facebook page, we continue to upload our photos from last season’s trips onto the website and we are also keeping up with our Similan liveaboard blogs.
If you are starting to think about your next trip out to the Similan Islands get in touchwith us with any questions you may have. We update the schedules weekly, so you can search for up to date availability here: • • • • •
