Christmas has come and gone, and we are now at the beginning of the new year – at least according to the Gregorian calendar. The Chinese New Years celebrations, however, are fast approaching and Similan Liveaboards are getting booked up.

Thailand has a strong Chinese influence, as do many South East Asian countries; this means that Chinese New Year is a popular celebration in the diary here. It also means that it is a long holiday for much of the world, and what does that mean? More time for diving, of course!

Lots of people are still contacting us asking: “Can I book a liveaboard over the Chinese new year period (around the 19th February)?”. The answer at the moment is “yes!”, but options at this point are very limited.

That being said, our team will be ready to find the right trip for your needs and wishes. Whether that be a high-end option visiting Burma or the Similans, a mid-range liveaboard or a Similan diving budget trip. We will do our best to find the best trip for you.

February is at the height of the best time to go diving in the Similans. It is after the peak season rush, and is right in the middle of the 3 month period of ‘best time to go to the Similans’. With a holiday slap bang in the centre of the month, this means that availability is restricted.

Many of the mid-range options are fully booked already for the upcoming month, the Pawara and Hallelujah filled up fast for the Chinese New Year holiday trips. These liveaboards have been very popular this season and our dive masters have been on both.

The budget Similan liveaboards that we have to offer still have some space for Similan diving through February, too. If you are a backpacker or are just travelling on tight funds then these are ideal for you. Some budget options also have flexible itineraries, making them suitable for those looking for a specific number of days diving.

We have a couple of excellent options for extended Burma liveaboards over the Chinese New Years period (the SY Diva Andaman and the Thailand Aggressor), both have availability. These trips are high end excursions to the Mergui Archipelago, exploring the best sites in the Similans too.

So to summarise – there are still spaces on Similan liveaboard to go diving in February. The period over Chinese New year is filling up fast, but it is still possible to find spaces in each type of liveaboard category. Get in touch now to find out more information about what options there are for you.
