This season Thailand Dive & Sail have arranged many Similan Live-aboards, Similan Day Trips and Similan Snorkel Trips for many satisfied guests, but once in a while we can the chance to arrange a more special day out.
On 4th February 2012, Thailand Dive & Sail arranged one of the most memorable day trips of our season so far. The event was a Hen Do (Bachelorette Party) for the bride to be and her party of girl friends. After several weeks of careful planning the time soon came around to put our plans into action.
The day started with pick-ups from various locations in Khao Lak before the short drive north to Ban Nam Kem pier. Ban Nam Kem is a beautiful location on the banks of a river estuary. The pier is seldom used so our guests could board the speedboat easily before the short 60 minute journey to Koh Tachai.
Koh Tachai lies approximately 28 nautical miles north of the famous Similan Islands and is part of the Similan Island National Marine Park. The dive sites around Koh Tachai are often visited by live-aboard dive boats, but the island itself receives few visitors. This provides a perfect secluded location for groups seeking a more intimate day out. Koh Tachai is composed of granite rock covered in lush rain forest and surrounded by shallow, clear turquoise waters. The beach is by far one of the most beautiful beaches in Thailand.
Upon arriving at Koh Tachai our group disembarked from their private speedboat to spend some time exploring the beach, national park facilities and enjoying a swim to cool down from the tropical heat. Many enjoyed lounging on the soft sand while some of the group’s more active members took to snorkelling nearby.
Lunch was served in a private dining area provided by the national park service, consisting of spring rolls, chicken satay, beef yellow curry, fried chicken with ginger, stir fired vegetables in oyster sauce and a huge fresh salad.
After lunch there was a second snorkel session, this time from the speedboat at the northern tip of the island. The snorkelers witnessed some of abundant marine life such as barracuda, moray eels, sea snakes and many different types of reef fish that inhabit the fringing coral reefs.
The excitement continued with a jungle trek around the island, experiencing the nature that abounds on Koh Tachai. Being a special occasion the trek was followed by a sparkling wine toast to the bride to be and a fun photo shoot on the beach.
With memories of a fantastic day still vivid in everyone’s minds, our group and Thailand Dive & Sail staff were reluctant to leave the island for the trip back to the mainland. Upon return the group were whisked away by our waiting vehicles to continue their day’s celebrations at one of Khao Lak’s local restaurants. Thailand Dive & Sail would like to congratulate ‘Mills & Boon’ on their marriage which took place the following day and we wish them every success for their future lives together and hope that one day they can return to celebrate an anniversary with us.
Using our extensive local knowledge, with a vast array of vessels and close contacts within the National Park service, Thailand Dive & Sail are more than happy to help you plan a perfect day out for your group, whether it be a Stag/Hen Do (Bachelor/Bachelorette party), birthday and anniversary celebrations or even a staff day out, we have the resources available to ensure the success of your day.
